Amber Hill
Welcome
Welcome to Amber Hill! The largest of our three bases, Amber Hill is still a relatively small base situated in a quiet and peaceful location not far from Boston. Amber Hill mainly covers the south of the county and here we offer a variety of teaching curriculums, from KS3 to Year 11, including GCSEs, Functional Skills, Entry Level Certificates and Vocational Studies.
You can find out a bit more about Amber Hill below; there is a written description, a floor plan, photos and even a video tour to help you get a feel for what it is like there.
What to expect at Amber Hill
There are two buildings at this base, the New Building and the Old Building. Our driveway runs parallel to the playground and ends at the New Building, taking you straight to the reception area. This is where our students and staff enter in the morning.
In the entrance way, there is a visual calendar to make students aware of any events, talks, or holidays within that month and important notices for the day ahead are written on a whiteboard. There is also a board that shows which members of staff are in school so students know who is in each day.
The New Building has most of our classrooms, including the Science room, the Maths room, the Art room and an options room, as well as the Pastoral Support Workers room, where pupils can come for a chat with their PSWS if they need to. This building also has a student area, with sofas and bean bags for students to sit and talk during break and lunch. The student area also has any notices that would be relevant to pupils and a Doodle Board that anyone is welcome to add to.
The Old Building, at the front of the site, has our English room, our PSHE room and Library – which contains books suggested by pupils – as well as the student kitchen, where students can get a hot drink and toast at break and where they may collect their lunch. There is also the Den, where students can go for a rest, whether that is for a bit of down-time or even a nap if needed.
Both buildings have their own toilets and pupils may move between the two buildings depending on which lessons they have.
Between the two buildings is a playground with goals for football, a basketball hoop and a table tennis table. As well as this outdoor space, we also have a large field and garden area behind the New Building. In the garden area, we have a polytunnel – which is currently filled with lots of growing vegetables – and a covered outside seating area. There are also a few picnic benches there, which are nice to sit at when the sun is shining.
There are various bright and engaging displays around our base about our fundraising, our trips and events and our BTEC options, as well as displays surrounding online safety, mental health and more.
On a typical day, we have around 8 teaching staff, 3 support staff, 3 PSWS and 3 admin staff. Otto also joins us a few times a week. Some of our staff are full-time and are here most days, while others are part-time so are not as in as often.
On Fridays, we have Amber Grill, where students can help staff to prepare lunch for other staff and students. When the weather allows, it is a barbecue, and we can provide vegetarian or gluten-free options as well.
We offer four different lunchtime clubs at the moment. On Monday is the Drawing Club, Tuesday is the Nail Art Club, Thursday is the S.T.E.M. Club and Friday is the Sports Club. If pupils have suggestions for new clubs, those will be taken into consideration and could become clubs in the future, as was the case with our current ones.
